Acne Remedies – 3 Spices

Home Remedies For Curing Acne

There are many different home remedies that help with acne.  Of course it is important to be sure that the everyday habits of good nutritious food, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep and cleansing the skin adequately are in place.

As well as eating fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices they can have a part to play in clearing acne by using them topically on the skin.  This is because they have minerals, essential oils and natural antioxidants.  Also many herbs and spices are known to have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties.

While there are many herbs and spices that can be used in treating acne, these remedies, based on three common spices, could be worth investigating.

Turmeric

Turmeric taken both internally and applied to the skin has been said to be helpful in treating acne.

Be careful when applying to the skin because it will stain the clothing or bed sheets.

There are a few different ways of applying turmeric to the acne on the skin.

  • Make a paste of turmeric and coconut oil.  Dab it on the acne and surrounding area.  Leave it on overnight if desired.  Or leave it on for as long as possible and wash it off before retiring.

  • Mix with honey and apply to acne areas.

  • Mix with lime juice and apply to problem skin areas.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.  Perhaps this is part of the reason why some people have found cinnamon to be helpful in treating their acne.

Here are some ways of applying cinnamon to the skin.

  • Mix 1 teaspoon of lemon juice in 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and frequently apply to the acne being treated.

  • Mix 1 teaspoon cinnamon with 3 teaspoons of raw (unheated) honey.  Apply it before bed and wash off in the morning.

  • Mix cinnamon powder and milk together.  Apply to the affected area.

Nutmeg

Applied topically, nutmeg has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.  It also has a toning effect on the skin.

  • Use a simple paste of nutmeg powder and honey.

  • Mix ground nutmeg and milk together.  Apply to the pimple or acne affected area.

  • Alternatively, here is a nutmeg paste that is soothing to the skin

Mix small amounts of either milk or water with nutmeg powder, making a thick paste.

Cover the desired skin area liberally with the paste and allow it to completely dry.

Rinse it with warm water using a soft washcloth.  Be careful not to scrub.  Pat it dry.

If you made the paste with water store any remainder in the fridge for a few days.  If you made it with milk discard any leftovers.

Cinnamon, nutmeg and honey can be combined with lemon juice for use as a mask to treat acne.

Honey has anti-bacterial properties and works as an anti-inflammatory.  It also has a peroxide factor that is released slowly.  Honey contains nutrients that the skin needs to regenerate.

Nutmeg is anti-inflammatory and can help reduce swelling, redness or irritation.

Cinnamon helps to stimulate the pores which helps the other ingredients to get in and do their jobs.

Lemon Juice is acidic.  Never use it alone but when mixed with the other ingredients it can, in time, reduce the skin darkness from scaring.

Here is the recipe.

Mix together 1 heaped tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon nutmeg.  Add about half a teaspoon lemon juice.  This can be either fresh or concentrate lemon juice.  It will keep longer if made with the lemon juice concentrate.

Mix together until the mixture is the colour of chocolate.  Add more cinnamon if it is not dark enough.

Wash your face with a cleanser and pat dry.

Using your fingers, smooth the mask on your face.  Cover your whole face.  Use it around your lips but do not put it under your eyes or on your eyelids.  Put it on thick enough to see the brown colour but not thick enough for it to drip.

Leave on for 30 minutes as a minimum.  Leaving it for longer is better as it gives the cinnamon and nutmeg time to work.

Remove with warm water and a soft washcloth.

Keep left over mixture in the fridge.  Use it for another mask or to spot treat any fresh pimples.  It should keep, refrigerated, for about 1 week.

These few home remedies for curing acne are only a beginning to the vast array of different home remedies available for curing acne.  One of them may work for you, if not there are many others to try out.
