Ear Mites – Animals

Home Remedies For Ear Mites

While ear mites can be a problem for various animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits and cattle, it is cats that are most affected.  Different species of mites attack different animals.

Ear mites live in the ear canal.  They are easily spread but rarely infect humans.

Animals affected by ear mites will display a lot of ear scratching and head shaking.  An infected animal will also have dark brown or black debris accumulate in the ears.

Home Remedies

Cooled green tea, a natural antiseptic, can be used to clean out the ears.  Use cotton balls to remove the debris.

Most of the home remedies around are based on natural oils.

Using a natural oil based solution will work by drowning the mites.  The oil suffocates the mites by covering their breathing pores.  The oil also promotes healing in the ears.

One technique is to mix ½ oz almond or olive oil with 400 IU vitamin E.  Put a dropper full in each ear, massage well.  The animal will shake its head after the treatment.  Gently clean out the opening after treatment.  This is done for six days.  Have three days break before repeating for another six days.

After cleaning the ears, place 3-5 drops of olive or almond oil in the ear canal.  The oil will smother the mites.

Overnight, soak a few crushed garlic cloves in the oil that you will use.  This will help to kill any bacteria that may be around.

These types of oil treatments should be done each day for about a month.
