Acne Scars

  Acne Scar Home Remedies

To improve the scaring left from acne it is necessary to nourish your skin with collagen and moisture building foods.  This will allow the skin to repair itself more rapidly.  Another step is to gently remove the damaged layers of skin.

There are a number of home remedies that are reputed to assist in the reduction of acne scarring.

  • Lemons  Use lemon juice to lighten the scars.  Apply the juice with a cotton ball.  Leave for 10 minutes then rinse.  Using lemon juice on the skin can make it photosensitive.  If you are using lemon juice on your skin be sure to use sunscreen if you are going out in the sun.

  • Baking Soda   Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 teaspoon of water.  Rub this gently onto the acne scars for 1 minute before rinsing off.

  • Olive Oil  After the baking soda treatment massage a small amount of olive oil onto the skin.  The olive oil will help to moisturize and soften the skin as well as reducing the scaring.

  •  Pineapple  Puree a quarter cup of pineapple.  Apply to face and leave for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off.  This is a gentle acid exfoliation.  Pineapple also contains vitamin C which helps to build collagen.

  • Sandalwood and Rosewater  Make a paste of sandalwood and rosewater.  Use as a facial mask or apply on the scarred area.  Leave on for an hour or overnight.  Wash off with water.  Sandalwood is soothing and cooling on the skin.

  • Honey  To moisturize and help reduce scarring use raw (unheated) honey on the affected areas.

  • Face Mask  Combine 1 tablespoon of sour cream, 1 tablespoon of yoghurt, 1 tablespoon of oatmeal with a few drops of lemon juice.  Apply the mixture to the acne scars.  Leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing off.

  • Yoghurt Based Mask  1 peeled apple, 1 tablespoon honey, half a cucumber and plain yoghurt.  Mix in a blender and apply to face.  Leave for about 20 minutes before washing off with warm water.  This will also reduce acne scars.

  •  Fenugreek  Make a face mask from fenugreek leaves, if you can get them.  Alternatively, boil fenugreek seeds in water.  Cool and strain before using the solution on the acne scars.

  • Turmeric  In the Orient, applying a paste of turmeric has been found        effective in treating acne scars.

Mix turmeric with lemon juice and rose water.  Apply to acne.  Leave for at       least 30 minutes before washing it off.

Mix the turmeric with milk and drink it as well as applying it to the acne scars.
Some people have found that eating turmeric daily is enough to improve their skin without applying it to the skin.

If you choose to try one of these remedies for acne scarring, be sure to use it consistently.  Nourish your skin by eating plenty of fruit and vegetables as well.  It is important to feed your skin on the inside as well as treating the outside.
