Home Remedies for Constipation

Constipation is a sign that your colon is not working properly.  Some reasons for this can be dehydration or lack of proper diet.

The first things to keep in mind in regard to constipation are to remember to drink more water or even fruit juice each day.  Eating more fruit is a useful thing to help keep your colon in good health.  The fiber and water in the fruit will help to soften the stool.

Here is a list of some remedies that have been found useful by some people in dealing with constipation.Aloe Vera juice – take twice a day.

  • Apple pectin

  • Honey added to a glass of milk

  • Lemon juice, mix with warm water and drink 2 or 3 times a day.

  • Boysenberry juice

  • Cantaloupe

  • Soak six dates in a glass of hot water.  Cool, eat the dates and drink the water.

  • Eat some prunes or figs.  The amount depends on the size of the person.

  • Soak 10 or 12 raisins in a cup of milk.  Heat the milk, eat the raisins and drink the milk.

  • Epsom salts.  Some recommend drinking 1 teaspoon of Epsom salts in ½ glass of water at night.  Be careful with how much Epsom salts you use.  Experiment with the quantity needed for your personal needs.  This amount may be too much for some.

  • Drink a glass of warm water combined with the juice of ½ a lime and 1 teaspoon honey, first thing in the morning.

Try these types of remedies first.  Laxatives are not really recommended as the body can get used to them.  If they are used too much it can be hard to wean off them.

Eating a diet that has lots of fruit and vegetables, drinking sufficient water and regular, daily exercise such as walking will contribute to avoiding constipation.
